Traveling to New York doesn't have to be So expensive. The city offers so many free tours and restaurants at different price ranges, that even with the dollar rising it is still possible to have fun without spending a lot.

One part that is difficult to save on, however, is accommodation. As it is one of the most popular places for tourists in the world, hotel room rates are frightening, to say the least.

Even those two-star hotels, famous for only being used for sleeping and bathing, can cost up to R$1000 per day, depending on the time of year. AirBnb It is also not an option, as the practice is prohibited in the region when the owners are not in the apartment.

I confess that I didn't remember that the prices were so absurd until I researched it for my last trip. As I wanted to spend as little as possible, I looked for options that wouldn't cost almost my entire budget.

In Manhattan, the best solution I found was hostels. The daily rates were not yet Great They were cheaper compared to this type of accommodation in other parts of the world, but they were much more affordable. On average, a bed costs US$70 a night.

In this post, I wrote about cheap accommodation options in New York, talking a little about the hostels where I stayed, as well as a hotel with a shared bathroom. These were some of the cheapest places I found in Manhattan. If you prefer to stay in traditional hotels, at the end of the text there are some tips for finding the best prices!

Cheap accommodation in New York

HI NYC Hostel

O I already wrote a very complete review here on the blog about HI NYC!

Ten-bed female room at HI NYC Hostel.

Jazz on Columbus Circle

Located on 8th Avenue at 55th St., o

The property is a little difficult to find as it is just a door in the middle of the street. The environment is very clean and the impression is that it was recently renovated.

I stayed in a mixed room with four beds, but it was a mistake on the part of hostel as I had booked a female room. I only noticed after check-out So I didn't complain, but I warn you to check carefully if they are doing everything right. The reception really wasn't the most organized.

The beds were comfortable, but there were no plugs or individual lights. Even so, the space was quite large in the lockers They fit a carry-on suitcase and still had room to spare. The bathrooms are inside each of the rooms, and in addition to being very clean, the shower was great. Really nothing to complain about the facilities.

The collective environments are just the corridors of the floors, so those who want to make friends may not have it so easy. On the second floor there is a “kitchen”, which is just a microwave and minibar, unless I'm mistaken, and that's where breakfast is served.

It cost US$238 for three nights.

The Jane Hotel

Unlike previous cheap accommodation options in New York, o

I really liked the option because the room was single, but the price was much more affordable than other more traditional hotels. For those who don't like sharing a room with strangers, this is an excellent idea!

It cost around US$120 a night and, if you want to know more about it, There's already a full review here on the blog.

Other options in the same style are Pod hotels. This type of accommodation has the same footprint: very small rooms with just the essentials and shared or private bathrooms. Room at The Jane Hotel. See other cheap accommodation options in New York in this post!

Cabin room at The Jane Hotel. The door is blocking the view of the wall, but that's all the room was, hehe!

Tips for finding cheap accommodation in New York

If you don't like hostels If you still want to save on accommodation, the best option is to look for places outside of Manhattan.

Places like Brooklyn and Queens are usually more affordable than the famous island, and access is not difficult.. Using the subway, there are generally few stations between these neighborhoods and tourist attractions such as Times Square or the Empire State Building. You will waste a little more time commuting, but financially I believe it is worth it. You can learn how to use the subway in New York in this post.

You can also opt for New Jersey, in places like Hoboken. To get to the island, just use the PATH transport system, which costs US$2.75 (cannot be paid with the unlimited subway card).

And these are some cheap accommodation options in New York! Despite being a very expensive city, it is possible to find slightly more affordable places to spend your days.
