Despite being a relatively small city, deciding where to stay in Florianópolis is not as simple as it seems.
The island is divided into north, south, east and center, and all locations offer advantages and disadvantages. The best place for those who want to enjoy the beaches, one of the region's biggest attractions, is not the same for those who want to go on cultural tours.
Whether or not you have a car during your stay also influences this choice. Although there is a public transport system, it is often slow and inefficient. Getting from the Center to Praia Brava, in the far north, is a task that involves at least two buses and a two-hour journey, for example. Leaving the southern part, this path takes more than three hours.
Fortunately, as it is a very tourist destination, there are hotel, inn and hostel options in almost every neighborhood. This way, once you discover the best area for your travel style, it's easy to find accommodation that fits your budget! You will be pleased to know that even in high season, prices in Floripa are not as absurd as those charged on other Brazilian beaches.
In this post, I gave tips on where to stay in Florianópolis, explaining a little about each part of the island and indicating the best accommodations here! 🙂
Cheap accommodation in Florianópolis
Despite being a very popular national destination, Florianópolis has accommodation options for all budgets. There are several hotels, inns and hostels for those who want to enjoy the island without spending a lot.
The best cheap accommodation in Floripa are:
In the center
- Castelmar Hotel: In the heart of the city center, Castelmar has an outdoor pool, gym, air-conditioned rooms and 24-hour reception.
- Innbox: One of the cheapest hostels in Florianópolis! The rooms have a closet, air conditioning and a private bathroom.
In Lagoa da Conceição:
- Pousada Barratur: simple accommodation, with an excellent, pet-friendly breakfast, and the rooms even have a kitchen and air conditioning!
- Floripa Lake House Hostel: With excellent prices, this hostel has air-conditioned rooms, a shared kitchen, and has easy access to Praia da Lagoa.
In the North of the Island:
- Caravaggio Praia Hotel: 2 minutes walk from Canasvieiras beach, this hotel has breakfast, swimming pool and restaurant, as well as free wifi!
- Pousada Dona Aurea: With a shared kitchen, barbecue, breakfast and rooms for families, this guesthouse is just a few minutes from Canasvieiras beach.
- Tangerina Hostel: Close to the beaches of Jurerê and Canasvieiras, this hostel has private and individual rooms, as well as a bar and garden.
In the South of the Island:
- Pousada 4 Estações: A 6-minute walk from Campeche beach, the 4 Estações guesthouse has parking, swimming pool, garden and air-conditioned rooms.
- Lampião Hostel: next to Campeche beach, in one of the best beach centers on the island, this hostel offers mixed dorms, with lockers, and a great garden to relax in!
Best neighborhoods to stay in Florianópolis
The Island of Magic is divided into four parts:
- North of the Island: where some of the best-known beaches are located, such as Jurerê, Canasvieiras and Ingleses.
- South of the Island: where the wildest beaches are located, such as Campeche and Matadeiro.
- Conceição Lagoon: where the lagoon of the same name and the Mole and Joaquina beaches are located.
- Center: where there are no beaches, but it is possible to find several tourist attractions such as Beira-mar Norte, Hercílio Luz bridge and the Public Market.
Each of these parts has its own neighborhoods, which may be the best option depending on your budget and type of trip.
If your goal is to just enjoy the beaches, the suggestion is to stay in the north of the island. There are neighborhoods of Santo Antônio de Lisboa, Jurerê, Canasvieiras, Ingleses and Santinho. As traffic in Florianópolis is chaotic during the season, it is best to book a hotel close to the beaches, so as not to waste time in traffic jams. The north has the most popular beaches and greater infrastructure.
If you want to enjoy the sea, but want a vibe quieter, choose the south of the island. The traffic is even worse than in the north, but the beaches are more beautiful, more deserted (as far as possible), and you will have a greater connection with nature. The most popular neighborhoods are Campeche, Morro das Pedras and Armação. This is also where Floripa's best-known trail is, which leads to Lagoinha do Leste.
In Lagoa da Conceição, you have easy access to both the south and north of the island, and there is also a little center beachy easy to walk, full of restaurants, cafes and bars.. It is the perfect option for those who want to enjoy all the beaches on the island, without committing to a single region. The Lagoon is divided between Lagoa da Conceição and Barra da Lagoa, the first being a place with more movement.
The Center is the ideal region for those who want to enjoy more than just the beaches, as it is where most of the shops, restaurants and shopping malls are located. It is also the best location if you are going to use public transport, as buses leave from there to most of the beaches, and to the other access terminals. In the center are located the neighborhood of the same name, as well as the Itacorubi, Santa Mônica, Agronômica and Trindade.
What is the best neighborhood for…
- Who likes popular beaches: Jurerê Internacional, with emphasis on the Il Campanario and the Jurerê Beach Village
- Who wants to save money but still stay on the beach: Canasvieiras, where there are hotels with great prices as Caravaggio Praia Hotel
- Who wants to be close to the beach and nature: Campeche, with the incredible Pousada Vila Tamarindo and Pousada 4 Estações
- Who wants to enjoy it as a couple: Lagoa da Conceição has some of the most romantic inns on the island, such as Pousada Vila Rosada.
- Who wants to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation: Santinho, with one of the best resorts in Brazil, the Costao do Santinho Resort
- Who will use public transport: Center, with easy transport access to most of the island's beaches. Try to make a reservation at Ibis., which is close to the central bus terminal (TICEN).
- Who will enjoy it as a family: Canasvieiras, with the best combination of a small center with essential stores and a beach with calm water. Take a look at Pousada Dona Aurea or palace beach hotel
- Who will work and enjoy at the same time: Lagoa da Conceição, with lots of cafes to work in but still easy access to the beaches. I recommend the Pousada Casa da Lagoa or the Selina.
- Who wants to save the most: the Center has some of the cheapest hotels on the island, such as the Castelmar and hostels like Floripa HI Hostel.
- Who goes out of season: nThe Center is where you find other tourist attractions besides the beaches and enjoy some of the best restaurants in the region. Try the Ibis., Majestic, or Novotel.
- Who likes to enjoy the night: Most of the nightclubs are in the Center, but some of the best clubs are in Jurerê. Take a look at Majestic and Beach Village.
- Who likes to surf: Praia Mole is one of the best beaches for surfing, so stay at Lagoa da Conceição, in Lagoa Nômade Hostel ou na Pousada Pedra Rosa.
Where to stay in Florianópolis (divided by REGIONS)
downtown
The central part of the city is the ideal base for all travelers who want to see a little of everything the island has to offer. This is where tourist attractions such as the Public Market or the Hercílio Luz Bridge are located, as well as the famous Beira-mar Norte, where residents enjoy sunny days to walk, ride a bike or play on the sand courts.
It's the perfect spot for anyone using public transport, as it's where the city's main bus terminal is located. From TICEN it is possible to go to other terminals such as TISAN, TICAN, TILAG, and then continue on to beaches such as Jurerê, Canasvieiras or Lagoa da Conceição.
Anyone with a car can also benefit from this location, as it is close to all other parts of Floripa. It is just over 40 minutes to the beaches in the far north, such as Praia Brava and Ingleses, and approximately an hour to the end of Ribeirão da Ilha.
It is not the ideal place for those who want to wake up and be at the sea, as there are no beaches with clean water in the region.
If you choose to stay in the Center during the season, it is important to leave your accommodation early to avoid the traffic. In summer, queues usually appear around nine in the morning, both to the north and south of the island.

Well-known hotel chain, I like to recommend the Ibis Florianópolis because it has great value for money the location is excellent. The hostel offers free wifi, individual lockers, a shared kitchen and a buffet lines for breakfast which includes fruit and bread.
Its biggest difference is the terrace overlooking the street, where guests can relax and make friends. The rooms are divided into male and female.
north of the island
One of the most popular areas to stay in Florianópolis, as it is where some of the island's famous beaches are located. There you can find Jurerê Internacional, Canasvieiras, Santinho, Brava and Ingleses.
Without a doubt, it is the ideal place for those who want to wake up, walk a few meters and reach the sea. Full of inns, apartments and beach neighborhoods, it is where you will find the greatest variety of options, with prices for all budgets. In the summer it is common to come across a large concentration of Argentines and Uruguayans in this part of Floripa, especially in Canasvieiras.
It is also a great area for families, as some beaches like Jurerê and Daniela are very calm, perfect for children. Those who like action will also find themselves there, with places like Cafe de la Musique, P12 and the Stage Music Park next to Pacha.
The disadvantage of this region during the season is the high number of tourists. It is also far from the southern part, even by car. Using public transport in the region is simple, as the TICAN terminal has buses that go both to the center and to other nearby beaches.
My suggestion, if you want to spend most of your trip at the beach, is to choose which ones you most want to visit. If most people are in the north, stay in that region!

All rooms have a private bathroom, wi-fi and air conditioning. Perfect for those who want to enjoy the island of magic without spending a lot!
Conceição Lagoon
Probably the most trendy neighborhood in the capital, in Lagoa da Conceição you will find a mix of cafes, restaurants with different cuisines, bars, clubs, beaches, trails, shops, street markets and cultural programs.
The name of the region comes from the main lagoon in the east of the island, one of the city's main postcards. During holidays, summer vacations and weekends, it is common to see residents enjoying sunny days on the banks, and sometimes even doing Stand up paddle. As the waters are calm, it is an ideal environment for taking children, but you need to keep an eye on it as not all parts are suitable for swimming.
For those who enjoy beaches, the most famous in the area are Joaquina and its dunes, and Praia Mole, a favorite with surfers. Anyone who doesn't mind going a little further can take advantage of the Barra da Lagoa beach, which, because it is further away, does not receive as many tourists (but there are still many!). Nearby are also the natural pools of Barra da Lagoa and the Tamar Project.
The only disadvantage of staying in Lagoa, in my opinion, is the traffic. As it is one of the most visited places and has more limited access (single lanes in both directions), there are often hours-long queues to get to the beaches. Anyone using public transport can take a bus to other parts of the island from the TILAG terminal.
If you are looking for a good mix of nature and excitement, this is the best place to stay in Florianópolis.
Some of the best hotels are:
Boutique Hotel Quinta das Videiras (Category: Luxury)

south of the island
It is in the south of the island that the most untouched parts of Florianópolis are located. Here you will find beaches such as Campeche, Matadeiro and Morro das Pedras, as well as the famous Campeche Island.
The region is ideal for those who want to enjoy nature, as it is where several trails begin.. The most famous of them is Lagoinha do Leste, which starts either in Matadeiro or Pântano do Sul (I recommend this second route). The trail to Naufragados is also a great trip.
Another nice area is the Ribeirao da Ilha, which in addition to stretches of beach, has some of the best restaurants in the city, including Ostradamus. It's a great place to spend the day with the family, as it brings together good food, calm waters and beautiful Portuguese architecture buildings.
Those who prefer a mix of beach neighborhood and modernity can find themselves in Campeche. In recent years, the area has developed a lot, and is now a mix of restaurants, inns and shops, along with one of the most popular beaches on the island.
It's a great area to stay in Florianópolis, but access can also be complicated in the summer due to traffic. Even with the reversible lane, the streets cannot handle the flow of cars, which causes major congestion. If your goal is to stay in touch with nature, however, there is no better place.
Some of the best hotels are:
Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge (Category: Inn)
In Campeche, the guesthouse Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge It is just a few minutes walk from the beach. Vila Campeche (Category: Inn)
With a peaceful atmosphere, the Vila Campeche offers several chalets to accommodate guests. Its garden and barbecue area make this a great place to rest after a day at the beach, which is just a few minutes from the property. All rooms have a private bathroom, television, air conditioning and a kitchenette, perfect for those who want to cook their own meals.

1 minute walk from Campeche beach, it can't be more of a “beach holiday” than at Lampião Hostel. The rooms have lockers and free Wi-Fi, and the accommodation also has a barbecue, garden and a great social area for guests to make friends. Around you you will also find a bakery, market and a bus stop for those using public transport.
A bed in a shared room costs from R$60.
And these were my tips on where to stay in Florianópolis! I really like Lagoa da Conceição, but depending on your travel style, it may be better to stay in the north or south of the island, or even in the center.
