Hollywood Walk of Fame – What to do in Los Angeles

Updated

I guess the Hollywood Walk of Fame kind of needs no introduction. Who has never seen in movies that street full of stars with the names of the most famous artists in the world?

The first time I went to Los Angeles was without much research, and this was the only trip I knew I had to take.

I always thought it was an almost infinite street and that it would take days to cover all the stars, but the truth is that in one morning you can walk both sides of the street and see everything.

But I warn you, if you or your group are those who go into all the shops and places along the way and stop to take photos with various stars and people in costumes, this tour can last much longer.

Either way, it's a lot of fun, makes for great photos and is the ideal place for those who want to buy all the souvenirs at once (despite the slightly more expensive price as it's a very tourist attraction).

This star marks the beginning of the Walk of Fame! Next to this is the Beatles star!

If you are going on this tour looking for specific stars, remember to find out where they are beforehand. Although it's quick to walk down the street, the number of stars is enormous and it's very easy to miss one or another. This page The official website lets you search by the famous person's name and discover the exact location of that star on the sidewalk.

The busiest part of the street is near the wax museum Madame Tussauds, where you can take photos with statues of various famous people, and it's kind of scary how much they look like real people hehe. Tickets cost around $20, with more expensive options that even allow you to take home a wax hand.

Next to the museum there is also the Chinese Theater, a famous Chinese theater where the previews of several films take place, and which has also been the site of three Oscar ceremonies. Currently the theater operates as an IMAX cinema, but that's not the coolest part. At its entrance are the “Hand Prints”, where celebrities place their hands to mark the floor. Some people who have already participated are Dwayne Johnson, Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Johnny Depp.

The sidewalk has many other interesting attractions, such as the Ripley's Believe It or Not, with several unimaginable things, a Guinness World Records museum and the Hollywood museum, with several exhibitions of successful films and actors.

For those who can't resist shopping, the Walk of Fame offers a great temptation. That's because following the stars are all those famous stores from the United States. There’s GAP, H&M, Forever XXI, Zara, Disney Store, American Eagle Outfitters…

In fact, for those looking for Donald Duck stars and other famous characters, they are located at the entrance to the Disney Store. The store is located next to Ghirardelli, famous for its delicious ice creams and chocolates. Worth the visit!

In addition to the stores, there is also an open-air shopping mall, the Hollywood & Highland. For those who like to buy makeup, this is the place, as there is a very large Sephora. A recently opened Kiko Milano, an Italian cruelty-free cosmetics brand, is the solution for those who want to buy makeup and spend little. Victoria's Secret, Aldo, Fossil, Hot Topic, Louis Vuitton and MAC Cosmetics are other stores that are present. For those traveling by car, parking costs just $2.

For those who like electronics, walk about five minutes down La Brea towards Santa Monica Blvd (follow the map) you can find the West Hollywood Getaway, which has a gigantic Best Buy. There's also a Target there, perfect for buying those cheap cosmetics and well... anything else. For those who want to buy both cheap and more expensive makeup in the same place, as well as hair items, there's an Ulta!

Even better than normal stores, the Walk of Fame, as it is a super famous tourist spot, has a trillion souvenir shops. Here you can buy that “Best Parents” Oscar to give to your loved ones, “cutting” plaques to take home, mugs, keychains with stars, snow globes, t-shirts and everything else you can imagine.

For those who want to buy all their souvenirs in one store, La La Land, on the corner of Orange Dr. is the biggest of all. There are souvenirs not only with the Walk of Fame theme, but others like Hollywood in general, Beverly Hills, California in general and successful films.

To eat on the sidewalk, the best option is the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood, close to Hollywood & Highland, but the prices can be a little steep. There are other restaurants in the mall itself, such as Johnny Rockets and California Pizza Kitchen. For those who want fast food, usually cheaper and more practical, there is a Mc Donalds on the corner of Highland Ave. Going down to Sunset Blvd, parallel to Hollywood Blvd, you can find others like Burger King, Wendy's and, the famous fast food from California, In'n'Out.

For those taking the subway, there are two stations there, Hollywood/Highland, in the busiest part, and Hollywood/Vine right at the beginning of the Walk of Fame. If you don't want to see all the stars, it's better to go down to Highland, as Vine has mostly tattoo shops and sex shops, which aren't a very fun part.

  2. Hello, how are you?
I saw you mentioned $2 for parking. But is that at the Hollywood & Highland mall?
Can you park there and go for a walk on the Walk of Fame? If so, is this a fixed amount or per hour?
Hugs and congratulations on the post.

    • Hi, Luciano! Parking costs $2 at the mall, but it only costs that price when validated at one of the complex's stores. If you just want to see the Walk of Fame, parking there costs US$1 for every 15 minutes, with a maximum price of US$15 per day. When I went by car, I parked on the street and used the parking meter, it was cheaper.

In any case, you can check the parking conditions at Hollywood and Highland at this link: http://hollywoodandhighland.com/visitor-info/parking/

      Have a nice trip 🙂
