Super Shock Shadows Colourpop Cosmetics – Review and Swatches

Super Shock Shadows by Colourpop Cosmetics.

For those who don't know yet, let me introduce the Colourpop Cosmetics! With incredible shadows (called Super Shock Shadows) and one of the first to launch liquid lipsticks, the brand became a rage on Instagram. Searching for the hashtag #colourpop You can find millions of fans talking about how amazing the products are.

Where to buy Colourpop

The brand still doesn't ship to Brazil or accept credit cards here, so you have to ask someone to order it. I took advantage of the fact that my parents were spending time in the USA and made a request to see if it was really all that people on Instagram and foreign beauty YouTubers say.

Edited: Colourpop now delivers to Brazil! Just go to the official website, place the order and enter the address here in Brazil. Remembering that the card needs to be international!

With so much to choose from, I based myself in this video by Kathleen Lights, one of my favorite YouTubers. She has even partnered with the brand and launched some eyeshadow and lipstick kits. I ordered the Colourpop liquid lipstick she developed, the Ultra Matte Lips Lumière 2, and three Super Shock Shadows.

Today's review is just about the shadows, it won't involve the lipstick. I'm going to do a mini review of it on Instagram, follow it (@alyssapradoblog)!

The Super Shock Shadows

The three eyeshadows I ordered are metallic, and two of them are glittery. Are they:

Smash: It seems dark, but on the skin it is a very discreet taupe. This eyeshadow is metallic but doesn't have glitter, so it's great for everyday use to give a discreet boost to your look. It works really well in the crease as a transition color.

Sequin: A beautiful burgundy, wonderful metallic and glittery. I didn't think I would be able to use it (I bought it because of Kathleen's video), but I actually loved it! It's not super dark and despite being metallic I didn't find it super flashy.

Nillionare: I confess that I bought this completely on impulse. I saw it on the store's home page, looked for some swatches, thought it was pretty and decided to buy it. It's a cooler brown with a lot of glitter, perfect for those who want to do dark party makeup without using black.

Use and duration

Look, I like to apply eyeshadow with a brush. I think it's more practical, it doesn't get dirty and when you need to touch up, you can just use the same brush. But it's no use, with these eyeshadows it's best to apply them with your finger, as Colourpop itself recommends. You can even apply them with a synthetic bristle brush, but the result is nothing compared. With your finger they are more vibrant and last longer. I also tested it by applying elf Makeup Mist & Set (a kind of Fix+ from MAC) and the eyeshadows came out even more vibrant.

I've used the eyeshadows with and without primer and of course, with primer it lasted longer, but without primer it doesn't disappoint either (it lasted the whole night, but it was dinner, nothing too challenging hehe). I just thought that, on both occasions, the shine and metallicness of the shadows were “erased” over time. When I went to remove the colors they were still there, but without that metallic reflection and without glitter.

In addition to the photos, I also made a video to show the real shine that these shadows have. To make these swatches I swiped the shadows with my finger and then on my arm, I didn't use any brush, primer or eyeshadow enhancer.

The price for the Super Shock Shadows is super friendly, $5 each. For the size and quality, I thought it was really worth it (and I'm already choosing new colors because, right, HHEEHE, I'm addicted). Smash, for example, I have used in all my makeup as a transition color.

The brand is cruelty-free – it does not test on animals – and most of its products are vegan. This is the case with the three shadows in this post! Those who don't buy products with animal derivatives can rest assured that Colourpop Cosmetics is almost all approved (there is a list of products that are not vegan here).

For my next purchase, I'm eyeing the shade I Heart This and the Ultra Matte Lip Midi, which is said to be a dupe for Kylie's Candy K. Has anyone tried any of the brand's products and loved any other colors that I didn't think to order? Let me know <3

  1. There are some Brazilian stores that even sell them, but the price goes up a lot! That’s not possible, right? :/

    • How fast, Pati!! Was it taxed? I'm going to update my post, in the lipstick post I said they already deliver and I forgot to change that one! Thanks for the tip =)

    • Pati, were you taxed? I was looking on the website that for purchases over 50 dollars shipping is free! How did you do it?
