See what they are and how to use packing cubes, the best suitcase organizers!

I've changed my packing style a lot over the years..

On my first trips, I took all that was possible. You know those people who wear a blouse that hasn't been worn in the last two years, just to be sure? It was me!

There were several times when I needed to open my suitcases at the airport and reorganize my belongings so that they were all within the weight limit. 32kg seems like a lot but it's not quite like that, rs.

Fortunately, I got older and, in addition to reducing the number of items in my closet, I also reduced the number of pieces I take with me when traveling. I realized that in my daily life I always end up wearing the same clothes, and they are the ones that end up in my suitcase.

Still, until the beginning of this year, I had a lot of difficulty keeping everything organized. On the way there I managed to fix everything with a mixture of rollers and shoe bags, but on the way back there was no way. Even though I made a few purchases, it seemed like things didn't fit and more than once I had to resort to the famous trick of sitting on top of the suitcase to get it to close (#who never).

I discovered the solution to this problem on my first trip to the United States in 2018: packing cubes! In this post I will talk about these items that I consider a miracle of organization, what are their advantages and where you can find them. I confess that I'm so in love with mine that I even recorded a short video showing how they make it easier to put together your suitcase or backpack.!

What are packing cubes?

Packing cubes are nothing more than small bags that you can use to organize your suitcase.

Most of them are made of nylon, a light fabric so as not to weigh down your luggage. The most modern ones have a compression system with two zippers, meaning you can carry more items without taking up as much space.

Because they are made specifically for travel, a set de packing cubes usually includes different sizes. Some brands also include specific cubes for shoes or dirty clothes in their sets, but you can easily improvise these with bags or plastic bags.

What are the advantages of using packing cubes?

As I already mentioned, the great benefit of packing cubes is to leave your suitcase organized. Using a separate cube for each clothing category, it's easy to find the piece you're looking for, and you don't need to take everything out of place to find a specific blouse.

Due to its compression system, it is also possible to carry more items than just stacking or making rolls with them. This is actually an advantage and disadvantage, as more things mean more weight, rs.

They are also great for those who like to take their belongings out of their suitcase and place them in the hotel wardrobe, as the cubes can be easily stored in drawers.

Besides all this, the biggest advantage of using packing cubes is the ease of mount to love her. Once all the clothes, shoes and accessories are in their respective containers, just solve a kind of puzzle to fit them into the backpack or suitcase and that's it!

Throughout the trip, just return the pieces to their cubes and, without the mess, there will be no stress when packing your suitcase to return home! Magical, hahaha.

How to use packing cubes?

I like to use one packing cube different for each type of clothing. I usually put blouses and dresses in one, coats in another and then separate between pants and shorts, underwear and workout clothes depending on the trip.

A tip for being able to fit even more pieces into each of them is to pay attention when folding. If a blouse is bulkier on one side, I place the bulkier part of the next piece on the opposite side. Ideally, try to fold each item so that it is the same size as the packing cube. You can also make rolls inside the cubes, but I feel like this way takes up more space.

I made a quick video showing how I fold, organize the pieces and place them inside my backpack. Remembering that this is just an example and some essential items like shoes were missing!

What are the best brands of packing cubes?

Here in Brazil I haven't found it yet packing cubes legal to sell. I searched with different names, including “suitcase organizers”, but most of the results are plastic and not very practical.

The best solution, in my opinion, is to take advantage of a trip to the United States or Europe and buy there. You can find several sets cheap on Amazon, with different colors to make it even easier to identify where each piece is. I already took the opportunity to put the links here in the post, and you can have them delivered to your hotel or use the Amazon Locker service.

The most famous brand in the USA is Eagle Creek. A pioneer in this type of organizer, it offers cubes in five different sizes: extra small, small, slim, medium and large, which can be purchased with or without the compression system. There is also one specifically for dirty laundry, which has two compartments: one breathe and another to keep clothes damp.

Another famous and highly rated company on Amazon is Gonex. With sets of three, four, five or six pieces, the brand's products are made from nylon super resistant and have a screen that makes it possible to see what is inside each cube, making it easier to find your clothes. Like Eagle Creek, the brand also offers Cubes with the compression system.

Similar in quality is the eBags brand, which offers an unlimited guarantee for its parts, which are made with techlite diamond nylon and using YKK zippers. A cube very interesting thing that the company sells is the Ultralight Toiletry Cube in version slim, perfect for organizing bathroom items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, creams and others, and which can be hung behind the door or on a towel hook. Because it's light and small, it can even be carried in your gym bag!

Those who want to save money can purchase the sets from Amazon itself, which cost an average of US$20 for four cubes. Made with high quality material, they also have a screen for better viewing of the content and to let the items breathe. Even though they are part of the company's basic line, most sets have a thousand or more reviews, with an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5!

packing cubes They really were a revolution in my life, I hope I managed to convey that in this post.

  3. I love these dividers! It's a shame that they're really hard to find... here in São Paulo you'll occasionally find them in a Japanese store. I have an old mega that is still lasting today! I only use it for a few pieces, but I'm going to buy more and start packing my entire suitcase with them now 🙂
The video you made is amazing! I usually make rolls, but I'll try it your way to see if it's better! 🙂
