Don't know how to assemble a travel bag? So check out organization tips to keep your suitcase tidy!

In the past, I took my entire closet with me when I went traveling..

I have always been the “But I need this piece that I haven’t used in two years.”, and there were many times when I needed to open my luggage in the middle of the airport to reorganize my belongings and avoid paying for the excess weight.

You can imagine, then, how difficult it was to pack your bags.

In the beginning, when my mother still helped me, there was some kind of magic and you didn't even have to sit on it to close it.. When I tried on my own... Not even opening the extension cord and praying a lot, rs.

Fortunately, over the years, in addition to learning to travel lighter, I also discovered some organization tricks that made this process much easier.. Today they are rare (ok, less frequent) the times when I despair thinking that this time I won't be able to close the zippers.

In this post, I will share with you some of the best tips to help you pack a stress-free travel bag!

Tips for packing a suitcase

Travel lighter

The fewer items to put inside your luggage, the easier it will be to organize it.

The tip is to separate in advance all the pieces you intend to take, and find out what can be left out. Try to plan formal and casual looks for each day, combining as many pieces as possible together. If your trip is going to last a week, you definitely don't need to take sete pants, for example.

Neutral colors that match each other, lighter fabrics that don't wrinkle are great options for putting together a smart travel bag. If the weather at your destination fluctuates a lot, choose materials suitable for withstanding the cold, and bring blouses and coats that can be worn in layers.

For personal hygiene and makeup items, the ideal is to use packaging travel size and avoid liquids. There are several other suggestions and a list of what to take in the post on how to set up one (a necessaire) on a trip.

Pay attention, especially on the way out, not to take more than necessary just because there is space left. An empty suitcase is better than an overflowing one!

Another suggestion is to wear your heaviest items, such as winter coats and boots, during flights! In addition to ensuring that your suitcase is lighter, you also avoid getting cold on the plane, hehe.

Choose a technique to fold your clothes

There is a huge debate about what is the most efficient way to pack your clothes: fold in a traditional way, make rolls or make a kind of package with several pieces.

The most commonly used method in everyday life has its advantages, as it prevents fabrics from wrinkling. At the same time, it takes up more space than the others, especially if the pieces are different sizes.

The opposite happens with rolls. Although they are smaller, which makes it easier to carry more items and to use even the corners of your suitcase, when done incorrectly they can create creases even in the most resistant fabrics.

Already package, which I have also seen described as clothing origami, consists of folding them together, making them “one piece”. This technique is not ideal for those who intend to live out of their suitcase, as it is more difficult to find specific items, but its compact format helps to save space.

There is no way correct, and everything will depend on what you intend to take and the size of your suitcase. The best thing is to test until you find your favorite.

Use packing cubes

packing cubes They are nothing more than small bags made especially to fit a travel suitcase. They are usually made from fabrics such as nylon and sold in sets of different sizes and colors, to make it easier when you are looking for a specific item.

There's already a complete post here on the blog talking more about what cubes are, tips on how to use them and the best brands. If you want to buy some, there are several available on Amazon!

I like to use one packing cube for each clothing category: larger for coats and tops, medium for pants and shorts or gym clothes, and smaller for underwear and accessories. Some kits also include Cubes for shoes, but you can improvise with the bags that come when you buy a new pair.

They are not the best way to save space, as their shape often limits how they can be fitted, but they prevent the suitcase from becoming cluttered. The most modern ones also come with a compression system, allowing you to carry more items in a single cube.

Build your suitcase in layers

When putting together a suitcase, think of it as a small building with floors. The ideal is to place the items heavier ones, like shoes and coats, at the bottom (the ground floor).

On the first floor are larger pieces, such as jeans and other coats. In the second, lighter pieces, and in the coverage How to get the items you will need, such as pajamas, a toiletry bag or another change of clothes.

To do this type of storage, you can either use just one technique to store your belongings (such as rolls or packing cubes), or combine them to use space even more efficiently. In this case, the same order continues to apply: heavier items after the shoes, then the lighter ones, and on top what you are going to use on the first occasion, preferably in a single cube or in the form of a package to make things easier.

Use the rest of the space strategically

The technique of assembling a suitcase in layers is aimed at clothes and shoes, but we usually also take items from other categories. In this case, you need to think carefully about where to place them.

The most fragile should go between the first and second floors, so that they are protected when their luggage is thrown onto the airport conveyor belts. This is the case, for example, with perfume bottles, drinks, smaller accessories and souvenirs. I also like to do the same with my hairdryer and straightener to make sure they don't break.

Heavier and more resistant objects, such as bags, books (although I recommend you take a kindle) or larger accessories should be placed on the sides, to help keep the rest of the suitcase's contents in place. I also suggest putting socks and underwear in some bags to fit in any extra spaces.
