Is it worth visiting the Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon? Are the stores and discounts good? I'll tell you in this post!

One of the most memorable experiences of my first trip to the United States was going to an outlet mall. I was delighted with that idea: a discount mall, where everything was on sale.

Since that time, back in 2007, every time someone says “o“I'm ready to go. What was my surprise, then, when I discovered that I moved to a city that had its own outlet mall?

I thought it was wonderful, and at the first opportunity I went to see the Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon. Since then, there have been a few more visits, and I decided to write this post to tell you my impressions of the place and its promotions. Let's go?

How to get to Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon?

First, let's start with how to get there. Despite being called “Lisbon outlet“, Freeport is in a very close neighboring city, called Alcochete.

To get there, without a doubt, the easiest way is to go by car. The journey takes around 30 minutes from the center of Lisbon, and the place has ample free parking.

Now, if you don't have a car during your trip to the city, you can still get there by other means. There's one space shuttle provided by the company that operates every day for €14 return. The ticket also includes the VIP Day Pass, which entitles you to a 10% discount at participating stores.

You can check the shuttle departure times and locations on the official website, but in general it stops at Martim Moniz, Marquês de Pombal and Campo Pequeno. If you are staying in Baixa-Chiado or Cais do Sodré, the Martim Moniz stop will be the closest.

If you want, you can also go by bus, a cheaper alternative than the shuttle but which takes a little longer. Line 4703 leaves from Oriente station, leaving you just a few minutes from the outlet.

Freeport Structure and Restaurants

Freeport is very reminiscent of traditional outlets in the United States: an open-air shopping mall with several discount stores. What leaves something to be desired, in my opinion, is the food part.

The “food court”, which is also open to the sky instead of a closed environment, is made up of very few restaurants. It has a burger restaurant, two tapas places, a seafood restaurant and an Italian restaurant. And that's it, with little space to accommodate the number of people who visit the place every day.

On hot days, the place does little to alleviate the heat, as it is open. For those going with children, it can also be difficult to get a friendlier meal, as there are no fast-food or fast food chains. At most, you can find a Starbucks elsewhere in the outlet.

I think that because it is the biggest outlet in Lisbon, there is a lack of food options. I always end up eating it instead of a burger, which is really delicious. As Europeans tend to eat late, having an early lunch can be the solution to avoid waiting for a table and make the most of your shopping day.

My experience at Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon

I've been to Freeport several times, both to visit and to shop. On my first visit, I imagined it would be like the outlets in the United States, with super low prices, hundreds of stores and that I wouldn't have enough time to see everything.

Well, anyone who is used to this type of outlet will be disappointed – the Freeport, as good as it is, is much smaller than your average American outlet. One day is more than enough to visit all the stores, especially if you arrive early.

Prices and discounts vary from store to store. In those that already have a lower price naturally, such as Mango, Pull & Bear and Lefties, it is easy to find several pieces under €10. The quality, however, especially of the last one mentioned, is not the best. In many cases, these will be those pieces that last one or two washes.

For sports stores, like Adidas and Nike, the only significant discount I found was on shoes. It's not close to the prices charged in the United States, but it is possible to find sneakers for €40, and sometimes there are promotions that lower this price even further. Clothes, especially women's, have very little discount and the pieces tend to be printed or super colorful. I prefer to work out in black.

More expensive brands, such as Longchamp, Coach and Furla also have some interesting discounts, but nothing so significant as to make me think it was a super opportunity.

The discounts at the Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon aren't very big, but they can still save you money on your trip!
Example of discount in the perfume store. The outlet price is just €10 cheaper than the in-store price.

Personally, I would say Freeport is worth visiting if you want some economy. It's not an experience like an outlet in the United States where the promotions are incredible and we left with bags and more bags (at least, I didn't think so), but it's still possible to find some cool discounts.

If you have little time in the city, and a visit will be tight, no problem. Here on the blog I showed the best places to shop in Lisbon, with several stores and streets that are part of any tourist itinerary around the city. It's very easy to combine tourism with shopping in the Portuguese capital!

How to save on your purchases at the Freeport outlet: Fashion Club

Freeport has a loyalty program called Fashion Club, where you earn 5% back on the amount paid on your purchases in participating stores, to be used as payment in other outlet stores.

In addition, those who participate in the program are also entitled to exclusive discounts.

To participate, just download the Freeport app on your cell phone and register.

Conclusion

If you want to save on your purchases and have a few days left in your itinerary, it's worth visiting the Freeport Fashion Outlet in Lisbon. You can find some discounts, and the selection of stores there is really cool.

And you, have you visited this outlet near the Portuguese capital? What do you think? Tell me in the comments!
